REMARKABLE UNIQUENESS is centered around an imposing German panel created in Bavaria or the Lake Constance region around 1460-1480, depicting Saint Valentine and Saint Giles. This spectacular panel is connected with two striking paintings by the contemporary artist Harald Erath (born in 1984, lives and works in Zurich); a dialogue that highlights the timelessness of medieval art and redefines its place in our modern world. It also allows us to question our relationship with ancient art and with its codes, but above all, it provides a fresh perspective on art, both ancient and contemporary. Harald Erath's two paintings are rich with cultural and artistic heritage that draws from the imagery of late medieval production and act as an open window to contemporary, modern, and current art that salutes its (timeless) past. Among the other key works in this exhibition, we mention a magnificent illuminated initial from a gigantic Italian Bible dating from the dawn of the 12th century, which was once part of three important collections. Together, the exhibited works constitute a poignant melting pot of splendor made possible by the remarkable uniqueness, visual strength, and strange beauty of these unique art objects.
