Well known, Antoine de Lonhy (duchy of Burgundy, c. 1420-duchy of Savoy, c. 1490) is active in Burgundy, Toulouse, Barcelona and Savoy successively. His oeuvre includes illuminated manuscripts, panel paintings, stained glass windows and preparatory drawings for sculptures or embroideries. This newly rediscovered miniature by Antoine de Lonhy depicts Saint Claudio of Besançon. It was originally part of a Book of Hours made between 1450 and 1453 in collaboration with the Master of the Ghent Privileges for Pierre de Goux (advisor to Philip the Good). This miniature is one of the rare witnesses of Antoine de Lonhy's early work and a precious new addition to the artist's oeuvre.
